R. Bates & Sons, Inc. was founded over 100 years ago in 1919. Founder Reginald Bates bought one of the first steam shovels ever used in the state and built a successful and highly respected heavy construction company which has stood the test of time.

Meet the team
Mark started as President of R. Bates & Sons in 2010 and has been working in heavy/highway construction in progressive capacities for over 38 years. Mark has a BS in Civil Engineering from UNH.
Jim started working with R. Bates & Sons part-time in 1993 as a field engineer intern and then as a full-time Project Manager/Estimator in 2001. Jim has a BS in Civil Engineering from RPI and a Masters in Civil Engineering from Umass.
Jason began working for R..Bates & Sons in 2015. He has over 20 years of general construction experience and has worked on jobs involving DEP compliance, infrastructure, landfill closures, water and wastewater treatment plants, dam and bridge reconstruction and repair, waterway access and park and recreational facility infrastructure upgrades. Jason has BS in Environmental Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
